Hunter Valley House
Located in the Broke Fordwich region of the Hunter Valley, the house is sited on a working vineyard. Designed as a holiday home to accommodate either the extended family or groups of smaller families;
in all it will sleep 16. Using a traditional gabled roof vernacular we chose to rethink the ‘wrap-around’ verandah and create one large deck that connects the four pavilions of the holiday home – designed to ensure the indoors merges with the great outdoors. This in turn doubles the size of the living and dining rooms.
The intersecting gable roofs create a wonderful frame to view the Brokenback Mountain Range and Wollombi Brook. Designed to be self sufficient, the house will be powered by photovoltaic panels, abundant rainwater tanks are stored underneath and the Aerated Wastewater Treatment System ensures an ever-green garden in the forecourt. Building works are anticipated to commence early 2013.
